WHAT IS DYSPORT®?

Dysport®, approved by the FDA in 2009, is an abobotulinumtoxinA injection which temporary improves the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines (lines between the eye brows and forehead) in adults under the age of 65.

HOW DOES DYSPORT® WORK?

Dysport® is injected the same way as BOTOX® Cosmetic and has been reported to have many similarities. However, Dr. Mazza and Dr. Sharma are noticing on some patients that Dysport® may act quicker. BOTOX® Cosmetic show results in up to two weeks. Dysport® seems to work within several days. In some cases, wrinkles begin to fade as soon as 24 hours after receiving a Dysport® treatment. This rapid response could be the deciding factor for a woman or man looking to improve their appearance before a big social event or meeting.

HOW LONG DOES DYSPORT® LAST?

Dysport® may last longer than its predecessor. Some studies have shown that Dysport® injections may keep wrinkles at bay up to six months, as opposed to the approximate three month timeframe associated with BOTOX® Cosmetic.

HOW DO DR. MAZZA AND DR. SHARMA TREAT PATIENTS WITH DYSPORT®?

Like BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport® is an injectable form of botulinum toxin Type A. Dr. Mazza and Dr. Sharma will inject small amounts of the toxin into specific wrinkle-causing muscles, temporarily weakening them. The amount being used and the locations will vary according to the patient.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS WITH DYSPORT®?

Potential side effects of Dysport® are similar to those associated with BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment. They include local numbness, swelling, some bruising or a burning sensation during injection. These side effects can be mitigated by placing ice on the injection site before and after the procedure, or Dr. Mazza and Dr. Sharma may prescribe some medication.
