Otoplasty is different for each patient depending on whether you need your ears reshaped, reduced or pulled in closer to your head. Dr. Mazza and Dr. Sharma advise that ear surgery is performed by plastic surgeons to correct a defect in the ear structure that is often present at birth. Since your ears develop at a faster rate than your other facial features, the ears appear overly large and protrude from the head.

Under Dr. Mazza and Dr. Sharma’s expert surgical skill, cosmetic ear surgery will result in a noticeable improvement for those patients with developmental ear problems or misshapen ears that may result from an accident or injury.

OTOPLASTY PROCEDURE AND RECOVERY

To correct prominent or protruding ears, an incision is made in the back of the ear so Dr. Joseph Mazza and Dr. Davek Sharma can precisely remove the excess cartilage that is causing the ear to stick out from the patient’s head. The next step is to “pin” the ear back along the fold into a new more cosmetically appealing position.

Otoplasty is performed on an outpatient basis. Normal swelling occurs around the ears following the surgery. However, recovery is relatively quick as most adults return to work within a week.
