As we age, most men and women see a change in their facial appearance. The Facelift (Rhytidectomy) Procedure
Dr. Mazza and Dr. Sharma customize every facelift to address each patient’s unique anatomy and aesthetic goals. The procedure typically begins with carefully placed incisions concealed within the hairline at the temples, extending around the ears and into the lower scalp. These discreet incision locations help minimize visible scarring.
Once the underlying structures are accessed, excess fat may be selectively removed or repositioned to improve facial contours. The deeper facial tissues and muscles are then carefully tightened and repositioned to restore youthful definition and support. Finally, excess skin is gently re-draped and removed, and the incisions are meticulously closed.
Depending on the extent of correction needed and whether additional procedures are being performed, facelift surgery typically takes several hours to complete. In some cases, involving more extensive rejuvenation, surgery may be staged over two separate procedures.
Recovery After Facelift Surgery
Following surgery, a small drainage tube may be temporarily placed beneath the skin to prevent fluid buildup and in order to support proper healing. This drain is typically removed within a couple of days. Your head will be wrapped in a supportive dressing to help minimize swelling and bruising during the initial recovery period.
Some swelling, tightness, bruising, and temporary numbness are normal parts of the healing process. While most visible swelling improves within the first several weeks, subtle swelling can take several months to fully resolve as your final results continue to refine.
To ensure a comfortable recovery, pain medication will be prescribed as needed. Patients should avoid strenuous exercise and other vigorous activities for at least two weeks following surgery. Alcohol consumption, steam rooms, and saunas should be avoided for approximately two months, or as directed by Dr. Mazza and Dr. Sharma.
