Neck Lift

Myers, FL. For many men and women, loose skin around their neck is particularly bothersome. Loose hanging skin is often referred to as a “turkey neck or waddle.”

There are a number of treatment options, both surgical and nonsurgical, that address the problems of an aging neck. Non-surgical approaches are liposuction of the neck and BOTOX® Cosmetic injections.

Surgical options are more complex requiring a skilled plastic surgeon. Dr. Mazza and Dr. Sharma address the problem of loose hanging skin with the following two plastic surgery procedures:

• Cervicoplasty which removes excess skin
• Platysmaplasty which removes or alters neck muscles

If genetic factors, weight loss, or the effects of aging and gravity have caused your neck to sag, a neck lift may be the appropriate cosmetic procedure for you. IS A NECK LIFT RIGHT FOR ME?

CONSULTATION PROCESS

During the consultation with patients interested in rejuvenating their face and neck, Dr. Mazza and Dr. Sharma often find they are bothered by excess neck fat, weakened or loose neck muscles (turkey wattle neck) and/or too much skin. A neck lift will address these problems and help you look years younger.

Dr. Mazza and Dr. Sharma may also recommend a combination of procedures including an eyelid lift, facelift and/or facial fillers.

NECK LIFT PROCEDURES AND RECOVERY

Cervicoplasty and Platysmaplasty Surgery

Dr. Mazza and Dr. Sharma most often perform a cervicoplasty (neck lift) with a platysmaplasty for those patients who want to remove excess fat/skin and tighten their neck muscles. They begins the procedures by making minute incisions under the patient’s chin and/or behind the ears to access the platysma (neck muscle) and provide the necessary adjustments (tightening). Dr. Mazza and Dr. Sharma advise the patients that sometimes it may even be necessary to remove some neck muscles to accomplish the desired outcome of smoother and tighter skin. Finally, they trims the excess skin and carefully sutures the tissues together.

Dependent upon your individual case and needs, a neck lift can take from two to three hours. Of course, if you are having a neck lift in conjunction with liposuction, facelift, brow lift, or other cosmetic surgeries, your time under anesthesia will increase. Your recovery time is also dependent upon the number and extent of the procedures.

Dr. Mazza and Dr. Sharma will provide you with a neck compression bandage that you are advised to wear day and night for at least seven days to help reduce post-operative swelling. Dr. Mazza and Dr. Sharma will advise you if you need to wear the neck compression garment longer at night.

Liposuction of the Neck

Another option provided alone or in conjunction with other facial enhancement procedures is liposuction of the neck region. Liposuction works effectively to remove excess fat from the neck. Liposuction of the neck requires an anesthetic and recovery can take up to 10 days. Your incisions will be stitched and your neck is bandaged.

BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic injections also can work to temporarily reduce the appearances of a person’s vertical neck bands. These unsightly vertical bands extend from under the chin to the base of the neck. When BOTOX® Cosmetic is carefully injected into the neck muscles (platysma), the muscles relax.
